Resetting AC in Joliet, IL

From time to time, you may notice that your air conditioning system isn’t working as it should. You may have just experienced a power outage, or maybe your system isn’t blowing cold or even cool air. Either way, knowing how to reset your home air conditioning system can assist you in getting your AC back up and running efficiently and effectively in a quick manner.

Switch Everything Off

The first step that you’ll want to take in the reset process is switching off your air conditioner. Start by turning the thermostat off. Then, you’ll want to shut the circuit breaker off for your air conditioning system. It’s important to shut these off in the correct order. If this isn’t don’t correctly, your system may fail to reset properly.

Turn It All Back On

You’ll want to wait about one minute before you switch the breaker back on for your air conditioning system. While you may be tempted to immediately turn your thermostat back on after you flip the breaker on, you don’t want to do that. You’ll need to wait a good 30 minutes for your air conditioner to reset internally.

After 30 minutes, go ahead and turn your thermostat back on the cooling function. If the system kicks on right away, you’re good to go. If it doesn’t, there could be a number of reasons that it didn’t. The best first step to take is to look at the set temperature and the actual temperature.

If these are within 5 degrees of one another, your thermostat may not kick on. You’ll need to set your desired temperature to at least 5 degrees cooler than the actual temperature for your air conditioning unit to kick on. If the unit still doesn’t kick on after adjusting the desired temperature, then it’s time to call DuPree Heating & Air Conditioning.
